Heart of Being Courses
Heart of Being 'CYCLE OF LIFE' - METAL
The first series of eight evenings will focus on the Metal element and its dynamics with other elements and Yin&Yang. We will concentrate on cultivating Qi, the vital life energy, which the Metal element governs in the body. It starts during its associated season of Autumn and the dense, condensed material world. As metal is such a compact and dense element known to us it represents all things solid and pertaining to an earthly, physical reality. This includes our body and what is directly related to it which is our animal nature. Described as Po in the Chinese tradition it relates to our bodymind, the instinctive, autonomic and animal aspects of our psyche.
Qigong and similar physical-energetic practices activate the primary dynamic of the Po which is Qi. Qi being the life force flowing in our energy channels and body as a whole is also moved and invigorated by breath and sound which we will concentrate upon in this course. Metal is a very basic
principle of our existence as human beings yet absolutely essential if we hope to feel part of this physical realm and the natural world. Without a deep contact to our animal nature we lose sense of who or what we truly are and hence lose ourselves in our heads and mental world. In our day and age
we have a great need to reconnect with this simple yet essential aspect of our being.
So in these sessions we will be working with a range of approaches that facilitate contact with our animal within as well as our body. A deeper connection with our natural simple state can occur once we embrace the ancestral heritage that is encoded within our genes and psyche.
Qigong breathwork, grounding exercises, Zen meditation, sensing and reflection upon our sensory
experience, dynamic movement, voice work, dance and letting go of our mind and surrendering to the
Earth; all these will be used as resources to facilitate a deeper and genuine connection to Metal.
